Having A Problem With ccSvcHst.exe?

It seems that a lot of people are having problems with a program called ccsvchst.exe. Often seen during start-ups and shut downs of your computer it can slow down your computer to a snails pace. There are two main possible causes of this problem.

The first possibility is from Norton 2007. Norton installed a version of this program on your computer during their initial installation process. The fix for this is fairly straight forward and can often be fixed by using their live update option in the program to update the latest patches for the software.

A second possibility is if you are trying to use different spy ware program than the one in Norton it could be causing the problem.

More nefarious is the possibility that some bit of spy ware is using this program to hide behind.

If you get a message that says the ccsvchst.exe has an application error, or if your computers performance has slowed down then you might be having this problem.

You could get this message as a result of an earlier installation of Norton that wasn't completely erased so even if you are not using Norton right now, it could still be causing problems.

Most of the time the error message above pop will up it when you are starting or shutting down your computer but it could also slow your computer performance as it uses up your resources, often hogging as much as 100% of your CPU usage.

Fixing The Norton Problem
Norton claims that their latest updates will solve the problem so your first step, if you use Norton, make sure that you have downloaded the most current updates. This might resolve the error.

If this doesn't stop the error message there is another quick thing to check. Go into Norton, go to settings, then auto protect. Select configure then general settings. In the right window un-check “scan floppy disk in A: for boot viruses when shutting down. Restart your computer. Often times this will solve the problem.

Norton also has a auto diagnostic program available at their website support tab, then technical which has solved the problem for many people.

If you've loaded the latest updates, reset the floppy disk scan and used the diagnostic program but still experience the slow downs or the error messages then the next step will be to completely un-install the Norton program.

Use the Add Or Remove Programs in your control panel. Use this to remove all Norton products. To make sure that you got everything, go to the Norton website where there are instructions on how to completely un-install any lasting pieces of the programs.
Restart your computer. Before you reinstall the programs again it's probably a good idea to run a registry cleaning tool to make sure that nothing was left in there. Once that is done you should be okay to re-install the Norton product.

Other Causes
It is also possible that you've been infected by a nasty little spyware program which create file names that are similar to those of legitimate Windows processes.
