Reinstallation of Internet Explorer

For a fresh installation of Internet Explorer, one should first verify that the previous version has been uninstalled. This process will not leave you completely without a browser, it will instead revert to the previous version of Internet Explorer. To do so in Windows XP: click on Start, then Control Panel, then Add and Remove programs. Find Internet Explorer on the list and remove it by selecting it with your cursor and clicking remove. Whereas in Vista: click Start, then Control Panels, Uninstall a Program, View Installed Updates link, Windows Internet Explorer 8, and finally yes. Now you can either use the restoration disk that came with your machine or get the most recent version from Microsoft's website.

To install the version of Internet Explorer that was packaged with your computer, insert the restoration disc and select Internet Explorer, then select restore the previous windows configuration and follow the on-screen prompts to do so.

If you would prefer to install the most recent version of Internet Explorer, currently IE 8, visit Microsoft's website at http://www.microsoft.com/IE8. Select download, once this finishes double click the installer's icon in the location it was downloaded to and follow the wizard.

To reiterate here are the steps which should be taken to either install the version that came bundled with your system or install the most recent version of Internet Explorer:

1. Decide whether you want the most recent version, which is recommended due to the improvements in security and program stability over previous versions, or simply the version that came with your system.
2. To install the version that came with your system, insert the Windows Restoration disc, select Internet Explorer, select restore the previous windows configuration, and follow the wizard.
3. To install the most recent version visit http://www.microsoft.com/IE8 and click download now.
4. Remove the existing installation by using Add and Remove Programs located in the Control Panel.
5. Select your country from the list on the left and your operating system from the list on the right.
6. Click Download and choose to either click run or save depending on whether you would like to install it immediately or at a later point from the location you save the file to.
7. Follow the installation wizard's instructions to complete this process.

If you would prefer a different version of the software, follow the above steps 1-4 but search microsoft.com for the corresponding version you would like and then follow their directions.
