Windows errors related to nwiz.exe

nwiz.exe is a software program created by Nvidia Corporation. It is also called the “nView Wizard.” Nwiz.exe installs when you install the Nvidia display drivers that came with your Nvidia graphics (display) card. The graphics card is a hardware component inside the computer and controls what information is displayed on your monitor and how it is displayed. If your computer came with a Nvidia graphics card already installed, you may also find the nwiz.exe software program running on your computer.

Nwiz.exe is intended to provide quick access to advanced features on the Nvidia display card on your Microsoft Windows computer. It comes with Nvidia graphic cards manufactured after 2002. By default it may load on startup and stay running in the background. Some of the features nwiz.exe provides is the ability to create and manage multiple desktops on one monitor, split a display across multiple monitors, zoom parts of the display, add transparency to windows, and calibrate monitors. It also adds enhanced features in certain applications such as Microsoft Internet Explorer and Microsoft Powerpoint.

You may have noticed nwiz.exe on startup, or in your list of processes or applications in Task Manager. Since nwiz.exe only provides advanced features that most users never need, nwiz.exe can be prevented from loading automatically with no harm to your computer. If your version of Windows permits, you can disable nwiz.exe from automatic startup by clicking “Start”, then “Run.” Type “msconfig” in the field and then click “OK.” Choose the “Startup” tab and then uncheck the box for nwiz.exe. Click “OK.” You will then need to restart your computer.

Some viruses and worms have been reported to disguise themselves as nwiz.exe. A threat should be suspected if multiple versions of nwiz.exe appear in Task Manager or another file with a name similar to nwiz.exe appears outside of your system folder or the Nvidia programs folder. An antivirus scan of any suspected file is wise. Because of the prevalent threat of malware, viruses and worms, you should have antivirus software installed with its data files up-to-date. We also recommend that you run a FREE registry scan to identify nwiz.exe-related errors.
